Explore, Engage and Imagine!
The History Department, part of El Camino College's Behavioral and Social Sciences Division (BSS), offers a
comprehensive curriculum which seeks to expose students to the diversity and complexities of the human past, to
engage students in the historian’s craft and research methodology, to provide students with the essential
knowledge and critical skills needed for the successful study of history at four-year institutions and to cultivate
student awareness of the many applications of the study of history. All courses offered by the History Department
instruct students in the skills of historical thinking, and emphasize reading, writing and critical thinking. These
pedagogical approaches provide students with a solid framework to continue the study of history at four-year
institutions and serve as a solid foundation for students pursuing a degree in non-history academic disciplines.
